if I lived here: 2700 Poplar Hill Court “Doorlandia” living room
2700 Popular Hill Ct if I lived here

2700 Poplar Hill Court is a sprawling, ranch-style traditional home built in the 1980s. And let me tell you, it is peak 80’s builders dream in here, well just one room in particular.

Check out this Instagram reel to see the interior provided by Kentucky Select:

Think skylights galore and those quirky, oddly shaped cut-out door openings that were all the rage. The house itself is decorated in a very classic, timeless style… except for one very prominent room that I just can’t ignore: the centrally located living room.

This living room has six (yes, six!) doorways leading in and out. Six! That is wayyy too many entrances for one room. It feels less like a cozy living space and more like a train station where everyone is just passing through. So naturally, I’ve nicknamed this project Doorlandia.”

The rest of the home is stunning. The kitchen? An absolute dream. The sunroom? A total party/hangout oasis. And the other rooms are spacious and full of charm. But this living room…well, it needs some love and a serious rethink.

Here’s what I would do if I lived here:

2700 Poplar Hill Ct mood Board. Welcome to my latest design adventure: Doorlandia. Come see how I’d transform this doorway heavy space into a cozy, timeless living room…if I lived here.

First things first, we’re closing up some of those doorways. Not every single opening is necessary (spoiler alert: six is never necessary). I’d keep the main entry into the room, the main entry into the sunroom, and the doorway that leads into what I think is a bedroom. That last one, though, we’re going to disguise it a bit (more on that magic trick later). I may keep the kitchen doorway, but it definitely needs to be smaller and add trim around the doorway, for heaven’s sake.

Next up, the wood-paneled accent wall and skull/farmhouse décor? Gone. It’s just not working with the age and classic bones of this home. But since I do like the idea of wood, I’d bring it back in a more elevated way by paneling the ceiling. That angled ceiling would look so warm, rich, and intentional with wood overhead.

The fireplace situation also has to change. That cottage-style surround isn’t doing this room any favors, so I’d swap it out for a more classic, timeless surround. Then, on that angled wall, I’d add built-in bookcases and cabinets, perfect for tucking away games, photo albums, and all the family-life clutter we don’t want out in the open. To really make it pop, we’re going with molding that climbs all the way up the ceiling, a rolling library ladder for charm, and a cohesive look that ties everything together.

Now, remember that awkward bedroom door we kept? We’re hiding it. How? By wrapping it into the built-ins and finishing it off with mercury glass so it looks more like a stunning feature than an eyesore. Add in some cashmere gray paint (with just a whisper of blue-green undertones) on the built-ins and hidden door, and suddenly the whole wall feels intentional, seamless, and beautiful.

Since we’re giving the ceiling all that rich wood, I’d leave the gray tile floor as-is to balance it out. Then, add in oversized organic woven light pendants, a textured jute rug, and a pair of comfy rust-colored chairs for warmth and personality. Finally, oversized art behind the sofa and on the remaining walls would really complete the transformation, pulling the whole space into a cozy, traditional, and inviting living room.

And just like that, we’ve gone from chaotic “six-way stop” energy to a polished, livable, and gorgeous heart of the home.

That’s exactly what I’d do…if I lived here.

By day, I juggle multiple part-time jobs, including working for a home staging and design company and by night, I scroll through dreamy real estate listings and Hampton private chefs Instagram and imagine the life I’d live if I lived there.

Welcome to just me, living here a space where I pretend to be the homeowner and designer of beautiful homes that are (sadly) not mine. I create mood boards, and design ideas, all while living my very real, very ordinary life in my own home.

Some days I might be me showcasing a multi-million dollar riverfront stunner, and the next it’s just me… sharing my favorite products, throwing together dinner, ordering mocktails, eating bread or planting radishes (that nobody eats).

This blog is my love letter to the life I dream about and the real one I live. It’s part inspiration, part pretend, and part practical. A little home design, a little gardening, a little cooking, a little drinking, and a whole lot of honest living.

Thanks for being here, it means a lot to a girl with big dreams, a lot of love to share and a messy little house. 🌿✨
