if i lived here: part two- the “other half” of the Sutherland living room glow-up

Here is a reminder of the room currently:

Okay, so remember how the first half of this room was all moody teal walls, snuggly burgundy sectional, and “please stay awhile” vibes? Well, the second half of this space is about to pull its weight qnd then some.

Here is a reminder of the first half of the room after the makeover:

part two: the other half

We’re closing off part of the kitchen and the opening in front of the scullery with a new arched doorway. Why? Because the previous layout cut the room open in a weird, “why does this opening need to be here?” way. The arch will give us an extra wall (yay for more decorating space!) and make the room feel cozier instead of like one giant game of architectural hopscotch.

The Built-In Desk Situation

On this brand-new wall, we’re installing a walnut-finish built-in desk area (same finish carried from the kitchen) that wraps right around to the window on the adjacent wall. Think: warm wood, clean lines, and a place where I can “work” while really just online shopping. The built-in desk will be stocked with favorite books and will secretly hide the files, mail and the printer because no one wants to look at that thing, ever.

The window panes will be painted black just like the kitchen windows and the balcony doors for that sleek, tied-together look that says yes, I planned this on purpose.

The Bench You’ll Never Want to Leave

Across from the desk, on the other side of the window, we’re adding a built-in banquette bench. It’ll be upholstered in blue-and-white ticking fabric that is classic, timeless, and just textured enough to hide the fact that someone will inevitably spill salsa on it. Brass wall brackets will give it a little sparkle screaming “look at me, I’m bougie!”

Netflix & Uno Nights, Upgraded

To finish the scene, we’ll bring in a small, brass-based or maybe a rustic antique dining table. Perfect for casual dinners for two all while binge-watching Netflix or for intense, highly competitive Uno nights that might end marriages.

Now add another huge piece of art and some really cool modern sconces on both sides and this room is ready for a bourbon tasting nights with friends.

I’m Kristin

aka Kiki, a dreamer, doer, and daydream decorator living in Louisville, Kentucky. I share my home with my husband, our college-age daughter, and two high maintenance landlords named Magnolia and Briar.

By day, I juggle multiple part-time jobs, including working for a home staging and design company and by night, I scroll through dreamy real estate listings and Hampton private chefs Instagram and imagine the life I’d live if I lived there.

Welcome to just me, living here a space where I pretend to be the homeowner and designer of beautiful homes that are (sadly) not mine. I create mood boards, and design ideas, all while living my very real, very ordinary life in my own home.

Some days I might be me showcasing a multi-million dollar riverfront stunner, and the next it’s just me… sharing my favorite products, throwing together dinner, ordering mocktails, eating bread or planting radishes (that nobody eats).

This blog is my love letter to the life I dream about and the real one I live. It’s part inspiration, part pretend, and part practical. A little home design, a little gardening, a little cooking, a little drinking, and a whole lot of honest living.

Thanks for being here, it means a lot to a girl with big dreams, a lot of love to share and a messy little house. 🌿✨
