current state of the Sutherland living room

The Living Room With Main Character Energy
Welcome to the living room just off the kitchen at Sutherland, the future headquarters for snacks, screen time, and casual family hangouts.
The river view from here? Epic. The kind of view that makes you feel like gazing wistfully out the window while contemplating how great your life is, living here.
Cozy, But Make It Moody
My goal: create a space so warm and inviting that guests don’t want to leave… which, let’s be honest, will eventually become a problem.
The walls will be dressed in a warm grayish greenish teal color, moody enough to feel dark, but not so dark that you need a flashlight at 3 p.m. I’m carrying over the brass from the kitchen to this room as well, by adding brass lighting above.
The Star of the Show: Burgundy Sectional
This deep, rich beauty is basically a hug in furniture form. It’s where we’ll watch Netflix, take unplanned naps, and maybe even read a book if we’re feeling ambitious. (Well, I won’t read a book but my husband will for me.) Also, this sofa needs to be filled with pillows, so many that you have to remove at least 3 to sit down.
Fireplace Glow-Up
To the left of the fireplace: an antique dresser topped with a giant piece of modern art. Because art makes the space. To the right: a cool modern mid-century chair parked in front of the window, flanked by tribal-print drapes for some exotic energy.
Coffee Table Goals
I’m going with an organically shaped coffee table that is casual, unfussy, and perfect for holding coffee cups, a bag of chips, and big enough to play Uno on.
The Mysterious Behind-the-Sofa Situation
That’s a whole other mood board in the works. Let’s just say we’re closing in the kitchen and I have plans. Big, logical, can’t-wait-to-show-you plans. It’ coming next so hold tight!
